Introduction The Premier Classe was first introduced in 2001 with only four coaches accommodating 24 guests. In 2006 it became a dedicated luxury train with eleven coaches accommodating 84 guests, travelling from Johannesburg to Cape Town (and back) twice a week. Other destinations to which the Premier Classe travels to are Durban and Hoedspruit. The new Premier Classe train set, that was introduced in October 2007 comfortably accommodate 126 guests. Reservations, Refunds and Cancellation Conditions on Shosholoza Meyl & Premier Classe bookings:
Once a ticket is purchased, a reservation may be changed for an earlier or later date without penalty, provided such change is made 60 days prior to the date of travel. Cancellations with less than 60 day notice attract a 100% cancellation fee.

Travel on the Shosholoza mainline train and receive a 10% discount on any long distance journey throughout South Africa in either 1st or 2nd class compartments or coupe’s. Children up to 18 years of age also receive a
10% discount Flexibreaks club discount when travelling and staying in the same compartment as the parent/s.
Tourist Class – Consists of Sleeper Accommodation
Passengers have a choice between a coupe that can accommodate two people and a compartment that can take-up to four people. During the day the compartment/ coupe are suites and at night they are converted into bedrooms, with both having hot and cold water. In addition both have a basin beneath a fold-up table. A Sleeper Coach can accommodate 28 passengers sitting / sleeping and their hand luggage. Passengers can enjoy meals and refreshments in the comfort of the Dining Car accommodating 36 passengers per sitting.
Bedding – Tourist Class Only
To make sure you have a good night’s sleep, fresh bedding is available at an additional cost. You are also welcome to take your own bedding into your compartment. Bedding tickets can be purchased on board the train. The Bedding Attendant will make your bed and clean your compartment/coupe.
Food and snacks can be purchased from the dining car and for passengers
who prefer to stay in their compartment/coupe, a trolley service is available.
Collection of Tickets
Tickets may be collected at any Shosholoza Meyl ticket office nation-wide.
Departure and Arrival Times
Passengers are requested to board at least 30 minutes before the departure time shown on the ticket. Shosholoza Meyl cannot guarantee that trains will arrive or depart on time. Shosholoza Meyl trains will however not depart before the times indicated on timetables. Members train discounts can be enjoyed during low and peak periods on single or return journeys – wherever the Shozaloza takes you. Members to pre-book and pre-pay their discounted train tickets with Flexibreaks direct within 5 working days+ prior to travelling/departure. Booking & payment conditions apply.
